Tulita is located at the confluence of the Great Bear and Mackenzie Rivers. Tulita has a young and growing population that still depends to some extent on hunting and fishing to supplement the family diet. However, there is significant potential in new oil and gas exploration, which provides rotational employment. Community services and some tourism also continue to be strong economic sectors. Travel to this Sahtu settlement area community is by air from Norman Wells year round, or by winter road connecting to the Mackenzie Highway system.
The Chief Albert Wright School offers K-12, and there is an Aurora College Community Learning Centre. Accommodation and groceries are available. There is a health centre and RCMP detachment, as well as a community recreation centre.
