Lutselk'e

Lutsel K’e means place of small fish. This Chipewyan community is located on a peninsula on the south shore of the East Arm of Great Slave Lake. The community provides access to excellent fishing on the big lake, and canoeing adventures in the barrenlands to the east. Many residents depend on hunting and fishing, and most supplement store-bought food with food gathered from the land. There is employment in community services, and some opportunities for rotational employment.

Air Tindi provides scheduled air service from Yellowknife, and the community is resupplied in summer by barge from Hay River. There is no road access. The Lutsel K'e Dene School offers  K-10, and there is an Aurora College Community Learning Centre. Local services include groceries, a health centre and RCMP detachment.

For more information, visit the community site or the GNWT’s Bureau of Statistics page.
