Kakisa is tucked in along the eastern shore of Kakisa Lake at the mouth of the Kakisa River. This is a prime fishing area that attracts anglers in season. Local residents hunt, fish and trap for a livelihood, and the Slavey language as well as education are valued here. The community is accessed via an all weather 13 km road connecting to the Mackenzie Highway. Lady Evelyn Falls Campground nearby is a popular summer area for visitors and NWT residents. The Kakisa Lake School offers K-10, and there is a convenience store and motel.
