About the Job
The Government of Northwest Territories is currently seeking a Director of Corporate Communications in the Department of Executive and Indigenous Affairs. The Director, Corporate Communications (Director) is responsible for the effective strategic communications of the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT). In keeping with strategic direction from the Executive Council and the Director of Cabinet Communications, the position will deliver a GNWT corporate communications program that integrates the work of all government departments and coordinates government-wide communications to increase public understanding and awareness of GNWT priorities, decisions, initiatives and activities.
Reporting to the Secretary to Cabinet, the Director ensures that the government is visible, accessible and answerable to the public that it serves; the Director ensures a consistent and positive corporate image of government. It is important that the public is informed about government policies, activities, initiatives, programs and services in a timely, accurate and consistent manner. The concerns and views of the public are taken into account in establishing priorities, developing policies and implementing programs. Communication needs to be managed in an orderly and planned fashion.
As the successful applicant, you have at least 10 years of successful senior level communication experience. You are a respected professional who works with ease at both the strategic and operational level. You possess excellent writing skills with the ability to draft communications for a variety of media. You are known to have exceptional judgment and a highly developed political sense. Requiring minimal direction and oversight, you display great initiative and a bias to action. Within an organizational setting, you promote teamwork and engagement and are comfortable working as part of a small group.
This position is located in the City of Yellowknife, a thriving multi-cultural community of 20,000 located on the shores of Great Slave Lake. The salary range for this position is from $64.71 per hour to $92.44 per hour (approximately $126,185 - $180,258) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,450.
