The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority – Stanton Territorial Hospital (NTHSSA) is offering challenging nursing work and work life balance. Join our health care team as a Registered Nurse (RN). Stanton Territorial Hospital (STH) is a 100 in-patient bed accredited facility, located in Yellowknife Northwest Territories (NWT). This is an exciting time to work at Stanton as the hospital is undergoing major redevelopment with a new $350 million facility being built with operations scheduled to transition into the new facility in 2019, for more information on the redevelopment visit www.stantonrenewal.ca.
STH is the referral center for approximately 43,000 NWT residents and 5,900 residents from the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut. STH provides health care services to adults and children on an inpatient/outpatient and outreach basis in order to restore health with dignity. STH maintains a tobacco free environment within the building and throughout the property, recognizing the health hazards associated with tobacco in the workplace, both to smokers and non-smokers alike. Therefore, Stanton maintains a tobacco free environment within the building and throughout the property.
Located within Stanton Territorial Hospital and reporting directly to the Manager, Patient Flow and Staff Scheduling, the Registered Nurse, Float Pool is a Registered Nurse providing culturally sensitive care to a variety of nursing units within the Stanton Territorial Hospital. Every Registered Nurse, Float Pool within Stanton may be required to take on a Team Leader role or assume the accountability of a unit depending on staff make up and experience of the staff on duty.
During every shift, the Registered Nurse, Float Pool will be a member of a nursing team that provides direct nursing care to a specific unit within the hospital. It is quite conceivable that a Registered Nurse, Float Pool may start their shift in one unit and then based on a change in census and acuity may need to be transferred or moved to a different unit to meet operational requirements. However, it is also possible that a Registered Nurse - Float Pool may spend extended periods of time in one nursing unit to help balance off long-term absences (i.e. illness, holidays, maternity leave, etc.). While working within a nursing unit the Registered Nurse, Float Pool acts as a patient advocate and facilitates communication between the patient, family and other health care professionals. This will result in a holistic approach to planning, organizing, teaching, and relationship development that will best meet the needs of the patient.
Based on patient census and acuity throughout Stanton the incumbent may be required to provide standardized nursing care to an and/or all of the nursing units within the scope of a RNs practice.
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
The successful completion of a Nursing Degree with one to two years of recent nursing experience in a medical/surgical environment required. Experience in three or more different nursing units (i.e. ICU, Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Medicine, Surgery, OR, PARR, Extended Care, Psychiatric, Emergency, Clinics, Surgical Day Care, Medical Day Care and/or dialysis) is preferred.
This position involves a Rotating/Irregular Shift Schedule which may change due to operational requirements.
Eligible for current registration with the Registered Nurses Association of Northwest Territories and Nunavut (RNANT/NU) is mandatory for this position.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
The salary for this position starts at $44.75 per hour (approximately $87,263 per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,450.
