Department Information

The Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) provides the residents of the Northwest Territories with access to quality programs, services and support to assist them in making informed and productive choices for themselves and their families with regard to education, training, careers, employment and labour, child development, languages, culture and heritage.

Job Information

Based in Yellowknife, NWT, the Manager, Postsecondary and Adult Education, reports to the Director, Labour Development and Standards, and oversees the development of new approaches to government strategies, policies and programs related to the Department's mandate in the postsecondary, adult education and training, research and the knowledge agenda/ economy fields.

The Manager must possess a broad mix of managerial, policy, strategy, communications, analytical, political, and public relation skills as well as a sound knowledge of current and evolving trends, best practices and issues related to postsecondary, adult education and training, research and the knowledge agenda/ economy.

The Manager represents the Department and coordinates a number of interdepartmental or interagency committees, and interacts with other divisions within the Department, other GNWT departments, federal, Indigenous and other governments, postsecondary institutions, adult education delivery organizations, non-government organizations, and research-related organizations.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

  •  Degree in a business, administration, political science, adult education, or a related field;
  • Five (5) years managerial experience that includes experience with multiple organizations and projects;
  • Three (3) years' experience working in a postsecondary and adult education and training environment;
  • Two (2) years supervisory experience; and
  • Equivalencies may be considered

Salary Information

The salary range for this position is from $53.65 per hour to $64.05 per hour (approximately $104,618 - $124,898) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,450.
