Job Information

The Dispatcher is located in Yellowknife and reports to the Territorial Emergency Medical Supervisor, Med-Response. This position will be the first point of contact within the emergency medical evacuation services including air ambulance triage, air ambulance coordination, dispatch services, and repatriation services.

The Dispatcher also provides triage in emergency situations when and incumbent manages the flow of calls within Med-Response.

The incumbent liaises with and takes clinical direction as required from the Territorial Emergency Medical Supervisor (Nurse Practitioner), the Emergency Medical Coordinator (Registered Nurse) and may access the Medical Director (Physician) who may be available on site or via telephony or virtual services. This position follows clinical dispatch, patient care, and transport protocols for all Med-Response services.

The decisions made by the incumbent and the advice given will have a direct impact on the health of patients across the NWT.

 As this is an emergency based service, this position will participate in shift, weekend, or on- call responsibilities as required ensuring continued un-interrupted operation of the service.

  Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

 Certification or degree in pre-hospital emergency medical care above first responder levels (e.g. Emergency Medical Responder, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic),

OR

Emergency Medical Dispatch training with 2 years of direct critical care and triage experience.

The following experience would be an asset at point of hire:

•               Direct experience working at the hospital and/or regional level within the NWT.

•               Any northern community experience

•               Experience working with NWT eHealth Systems.

•               NICU/PICU or Allied Health Care experience.

•               Experience in critical thinking skills, communication skills

•               Relevant employment experience in an aviation environment with particular emphasis on flight operations, air law, human factors, and meteorology.

Immunization Status

The successful candidate will be required to obtain proof of current up-to-date immunization status.

Salary Information

The salary for this position starts at $40.85 per hour (approximately $79,658. per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,450.
