The Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) provides the residents of the Northwest Territories with access to quality programs, services and support to assist them in making informed and productive choices for themselves and their families with regard to education, training, careers, employment and labour, child development, languages, culture and heritage.

Job Information

The Department of Education, Culture and Employment is the largest employing department and is responsible for about one quarter of the Government of the Northwest Territories' (GNWT) total budget. The department is organized into three program branches: Education and Culture, Income Security, and Labour Development and Standards. The department has a complex    administrative    structure    comprised    of    a    college    system,    10    Education Councils/District Authorities, 5 regional offices, and a headquarters component. Located in Yellowknife, the Corporate Financial Analyst is part of a team of financial and administrative specialists that provide financial, accounting and program support to various divisions. In addition, this position provides advice and direction to outside agencies, regional staff on contract and tender procedures for amounts less than $5,000 and the interpretation and application of financial acts and policies to ensure compliance.

The Corporate Financial Analyst reports to the Manager of Financial Operations and works on a regular basis with and provides information to the Director, Finance and Capital Planning and Senior Management. The incumbent also works closely with the Office of the Comptroller General (Accounting Services) and the Department of Infrastructure and other finance and program staff at headquarters and the regions.

These skills are normally acquired through the completion of a recognized Canadian professional accounting designation (CGA, CA, CMA or CPA) and three years of directly related experience.

Salary Information

The salary range for this position is from $44.75 per hour to $53.44 per hour (approximately $87,263 - $104,208) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,450.
