Department Information

The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority –Stanton Territorial Hospital (NTHSSA)  is offering challenging nursing work and work life balance.  Join our health care team as a Registered Nurse (RN).   Stanton Territorial Hospital (STH) is a 100 in-patient bed accredited facility, located in Yellowknife Northwest Territories (NWT). This is an exciting time to work at Stanton as the hospital is undergoing  major redevelopment with a new $350 million facility being built with operations scheduled to transition into the new facility in 2019, for more information on the redevelopment visit www.stantonrenewal.ca.

STH is the referral center for approximately 43,000 NWT residents and 5,900 residents from the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut. STH provides health care services to adults and children on an inpatient/outpatient and outreach basis in order to restore health with dignity.  STH maintains a tobacco free environment within the building and throughout the property, recognizing the health hazards associated with tobacco in the workplace, both to smokers and non-smokers alike.  Therefore, Stanton maintains a tobacco free environment within the building and throughout the property.

 

Job Information

Provides nursing care to patients of the Medical Clinic who have appointments with a Physician Specialist in accordance within established standards of nursing practice and the philosophy and objectives of the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) to ensure that patients' physical, emotional, psycho-social, and educational needs are met.

Located at either the Medical Clinic within Stanton or off site at the Stanton Medical Centre, and reporting directly to the appropriate Supervisor.  The Clinic Nurse is one of 7 Clinic Nurses in the Clinical Services division that has collectively approximately 33,000 patient visits per year.  The Clinic Nurse is responsible for providing nursing and medical administrative functions for one of more specialty programs.  The Clinic Nurse acts as the Case Manager for patients referred to the Physician Specialists by other physicians and nurses in charge (NICs) of health centres in the NWT as well as physicians located in other Provinces and Territories.

The Clinic Nurse is a member of the nursing team who provides direct nursing care to patients both before and after procedures being performed in the Clinic Services and acts as a patient advocate, facilitating communication between the patient, family and the physician, specialists and other health care professionals.  This will result in a holistic approach to planning, organizing, teaching, and relationship development that will best meet the needs of the patient.  The Clinic Nurse will participate in and assist the physicians with minor medical procedures within the Clinic (i.e. biopsies).

This level of knowledge is commonly acquired through the successful completion of a Nursing Diploma and three years recent experience within a general nursing area.

This job opening is for a Relief position where there are no established hours of work on a daily, weekly or monthly basis and may be required to report to work on an as and when required basis for facilities where services operate on a daily basis throughout the entire year.

Registrations

Eligible for current registration/certification with the Registered Nurses Association of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut is mandatory for this position.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

 

Salary Information

The salary range for this position is from $40.85 per hour to $48.77 per hour (approximately $79,658 - $95,102) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,450.
