For Sonographer (2) – Diagnostic Imaging Department
Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority and Stanton Hospital are planning to offer a professional development opportunity in the field of Sonography. This opportunity is limited to health care employees in the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT). This training opportunity is to develop a health care professional to use high frequency sound waves (ultrasounds) to create images to enable the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of medical conditions.
The successful applicant is a current indeterminate full time, part time, or a relief employee in a heath care field in the GNWT and has completed 100% of the mandatory certifications for their clinical areas and has a minimum of 3 years in their current facility (1950 hours).
All candidates should have a strong interest in anatomy and technology, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be committed to lifelong learning and have excellent hand-eye coordination. All applicants are required to complete a written assignment prior to their interview. This assignment will be given prior to the interview for those successful candidates; it must be completed and returned within 24 hours.
The successful applicant will receive a theoretical education (12 months in Ottawa at the Canadian National Institute of Health) and a clinical practicum (8 months divided in two parts: 26-28 weeks at Stanton and 4-6 weeks in Calgary). The program is a total of 20 months in duration beginning August 28th, 2017 to April, 2019. Once training is completed a four (4) week orientation in the STH Diagnostic Imaging Department will be provided. Once orientation is completed the Return of Service of 3000 hours will commence.
If there are no vacant positions in a Diagnostic Imaging Department following completion of your program, you will be required to provide relief work until completion of the return to service agreement (3000 hours). Depending on Operational requirements you may be in various locations throughout the Northwest Territories for several weeks at a time.

- Proof of Grade 12 English* and Math with 60% or higher;
- Proof of Grade 12 Physics and Biology with 70% or higher;
- A letter from your current manager to confirm your availability for the training;
- Proof of completion of 100% Mandatory Certifications required for your unit or equivalent;
- Completion of a written assignment for those applicants who are successful interview candidates
