About the Job
The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) Obstetric Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an autonomous practitioner who will provide clients with advanced health assessment, diagnosis, interventions and appropriate follow-up care in accordance with acts, regulations, policies, standards, guidelines, mission and objectives of the NTHSSA to ensure clients receive timely health assessment and diagnosis, optimum support and continuity of care in collaboration with the Obstetrics team.
Reporting to the Medical Director, the NP provides comprehensive health assessment, makes diagnoses and develops interventions within the nurse practitioner's scope of practice. The NP will collaborate with the team of physicians and nurses at the Inuvik Regional Hospital who deliver obstetrical care, as well as the Community Health Centers to provide primary care to individuals and families.
The NP will be requested at times to be involved with prenatal and postnatal workshops and assessments. The NP will provide clinical nursing leadership as an educator, leader, researcher and advanced clinical practitioner with an obstetrical area of expertise within the primary community care regional team by collaborating with Community Health Centers to increase the capacity for obstetrical care delivery.
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
- Successful completion of a Master's Degree in Nursing-NP Stream
- Successful completion of the Canadian Nurse Practitioner Exam
- At least two years of recent nursing experience, including provision of obstetrical care
- Registration as an NP with RNANT/NU
- CNA Perinatal certification
Eligible for current registration with RNANT/NU is mandatory for this position.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
The salary for this position starts at $53.65 per hour (approximately $104,618.00 per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $14,131.00.
