About the Job
The Department of Public Works and Services provides high quality services and expert support to Government of the Northwest Territories departments, boards and agencies in the areas of: asset management; the design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of buildings; procurement; records management and computer systems and telecommunications.
The Department also provides electrical, gas and boiler/pressure vessel regulatory safety services to the public, and makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector.

This position, which is located in Inuvik reports to the Regional Superintendent.
To manage a multi-disciplinary team of professionals and technologist / technicians providing project management to client departments, boards or other agencies, for the planning, design and construction of municipal works, fuel storage facilities, buildings and other capital projects in the Inuvik Region.
The scope of activities undertaken or managed includes:
- Managing a multi-disciplinary team of professional and non-professional staff in the delivery of project management of projects with a total annual value of $10,000,000 to $20,000,000.
- Consulting with other Government Departments, Hamlets, Community Organizations on capital programs.
- $100,000 signing authority for Contract Initiation, and $250,000 for Contract Performance.
This position requires expert knowledge of project management process in a northern environment and excellent negotiating skills to manage large complex projects and deal with contractors and consultants. This position also requires expert knowledge of northern construction practices and northern community life, and must possess excellent estimating and financial skills to develop and control budgets for capital and O&M projects.
This position also requires proven analytical skills to evaluate project results against objectives and excellent decision making and problem solving skills to solve and initiate corrective action to problems encountered during the project management process.
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained through completion of a degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical or Structural) or Architecture with ten (10) years experience in project management, five of which would include supervisor experience. Previous experience working in a Northern environment would be a definite asset.
Transfer Assignments may be considered.
The incumbent in this position will be required to travel about 10% of the time to and from job sites.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
The salary for this position starts at $58.73 per hour (approximately $122,158. per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $14,131.
